Direct Payments enable people who need care services to exercise more choice and control over their lives by allowing them to become more involved in making decisions about their support needs.
For example, if you need help with personal care in the morning, traditionally the Council would arrange the help for you - but with a direct payment the Council can give you the money to arrange and pay for that support yourself.
Receiving a direct payment gives you greater control and flexibility over your care arrangements. You may choose to employ your own Personal Assistant, or buy your support from a provider of your choice. You may have been assessed by the Council for your adult social care needs and been offered a Personal Budget. If so you may choose to receive that budget in the form of a direct payment.
