African Caribbean Community Initiative (ACCI)

African Caribbean Community Initiative (ACCI) is a holistic and comprehensive support service for the African Caribbeans affected by mental ill health. Our services include supported housing and advice, day opportunities facilities and specialist outreach. We also provide an extensive and holistic counselling and therapeutic service and facilitate a dedicated and proactive Carers’ Support Group.

For over 20 years ACCI has worked in partnership with service users, local authorities, health providers and the local community to ensure our provision remains relevant and service-user focussed. As a community based social enterprise, ACCI has built a reputation for high quality mental health training and consultancy. Our West Midlands based centre is also registered as a health and social care ’student placement’ facility.

At the heart of ACCI’s service is the mission to deliver high quality services and influence local, regional and national mental health policy and delivery.

Notes

Services offered by ACCI:

The centre is staffed by experienced and dedicated day centre officers, who support, encourage and motivate members through the journey to recovery and restoration.

The Outreach Team provides positive, pro-active outreach support that is both practical and therapeutic for African Caribbean individuals with mental health needs.

The Carers Group provides a confidential and safe forum for African and African Caribbean carers to share their experiences, offer support and address the isolation that can occur when caring for someone with mental ill health.

Omari Supported Housing Scheme provides quality accommodation to meet the needs of African Caribbean individuals with mental health issues. The scheme provides a package of support to prevent unnecessary hospitalisation, often referred to within mental health as the ‘revolving door syndrome’ and encourage self sufficiency.

ACCI prioritises support to our members to ensure they have secure and appropriate accommodation that promotes safety, stability and well-being and works in partnership with other service providers to this end.
