Neville Garratt Centre for Independent Living

The Independent Living Service, based at the Neville Garratt Centre, provides assessment for equipment and adaptations to help you with the tasks of daily living, for example, if you have problems getting in /out of bed or chair or on and off the toilet or problems with mobility around your home.

The service offers self- assessment, clinic assessment or home assessment, depending upon the issues that you identify. If appropriate they will issue small items of equipment on loan for you to use at home e.g. toilet frames, grab rails, walking aid.

For more complex problems major adaptations, e.g. a stair lift or level access shower, may be recommended. In this case you will be referred to the Adaptations Team (also part of the Independent Living Service) and may be offered a Disabled Facilities Grant (subject to means test) if you are a homeowner  or a private tenant. Different financial arrangements apply for tenants of Wolverhampton Homes.
