Changing Our Lives

Changing Our Lives is a rights-based organisation. We work alongside disabled people and people with lived experience of mental health difficulties, of all ages, as equal partners to find solutions to social injustice and health inequalities.

All of our work is rooted in the belief that no one is too disabled and no one’s mental health is too complex to lead an ‘ordinary life’. As such we don’t believe people’s lives should be limited or defined by disability or mental health diagnoses. Disability and mental health difficulties obviously present challenges but with good quality support, resources and creativity anything is possible.

Changing Our Lives has a co-worker model where disabled people and people with lived experience of mental health difficulties, whether volunteers or paid staff, work alongside team members with a range of experience. We pride ourselves on improving people’s lives at a local level, and we take this learning and best practice to a national level.

In 2014/15 Changing Our Lives worked in co-production with young people within the City to develop a cmmunication strategy for the Local Offer, which is available in the downloads section of this page.

If you are disabled and/or have lived experience of mental health difficulties, and you are interested in finding out more about working with us please get in touch. Please be aware we are not office based as we work in communities, so you may have to leave your message on an answer machine and we will get back to you.
