Sensory Disability Service - City of Wolverhampton Council


Who we are:

We are a small, specialist team of Rehabilitation Workers and Technical Officers . We work closely alongside other services, such as :

  • Occupational Therapy
  • Hearing Services
  • Eye Infirmary
  • Social Workers
  • Housing
  • West Midlands Fire Service

We can also connect you with other services you may need as your circumstances change, such as :

  • Welfare Rights
  • Falls Prevention
  • Telecare

What we do:

We provide specialist advice,  and support to adults living in their own homes who are :

  • D/deaf or hard of hearing
  • Deafblind
  • Blind or Partially sighted

Following an assessment of your needs and circumstances we may provide :

  • information about what aids may best meet your needs
  • advice how you can stay as independent in your home and community environments
  • you with, and fit, equipment in your home (there is a small range of aids that are provided free pending the outcome of your assessment)
  • individualised programmes of mobility training (e.g. cane training)
  • assistance with readjustment and rehabilitation
  • you with the registration of your Certificate of Visual Impairment


What are our aims:

Our aims are to help you in some ways to:

  • keep, gain or re-gain as much independence as possible
  • adjust your life following a sensory loss
  • ensure your safety and comfort in your own home and in the community
