Service Description
- Supply of Emergency Hormonal Contraception “morning after pill”
- Provision of the Chlamydia screening packs to all 15-24 year olds attending for Emergency Hormonal Contraception .
- To offer free condoms to young people (under 25yrs) as part of local C card scheme.

No appointment necessary throughout normal opening hours of the pharmacy.
At busy times the pharmacist may ask the patient to wait a few minutes.
The consultation will take place in a private consultation room. The client needs to be present, usually on their own although a chaperone can be arranged, if requested
The consultation is confidential and will not be reported to parents, partners or GP. Sensitive questions will be asked to ensure the appropriate treatment is provided or reasons for not supplying explained. Sign posting will guide the client to other services where appropriate. Any safeguarding concerns will be discussed with the client and reported if deemed appropriate.
Unprotected sexual intercourse risks catching sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and chlamydia is the most common. A simple test kit will be offered. The Emergency Hormonal Contraception tablet offers NO protection against STIs. Results will be sent to the client directly in an agreed way and treatment for positive test results is usually a short course of antibiotics.
Emergency Hormonal Contraception should not be used as a routine form of contraception. Condoms will be offered to the client and further supplies can be collected from pharmacies at no cost to the client, if participating in the C-card scheme. The client will be offered advice on how and where to obtain other forms of contraception
