Health Advice for 6 to 15 years olds

Advice for parents or guardians of children aged 6 to 15 years old including support with exams, diet and relationships.

Between the ages of six and 15, your child will grow physically, mentally and emotionally. Along with that growth comes a range of possible health issues.

Exams

From the age of 5 to at least 16 your child will have homework and can sit up to 70 tests and exams before they even reach their GCSEs.

It's likely that your child might experience stress. Research from the University of London's Institute of Education found that homework can be a major cause of family rows and friction.

Diet

A healthy diet that has the right nutrients is vital as your child grows. Half of all children are predicted to be obese by 2050 if they don't change their diet and exercise habits so it's important to seek support if you think your child is overweight.

Eating five portions of fruit and veg a day, regular meals and healthy snacks are some of the best ways to combat childhood obesity.

Children also need exercise to keep healthy. There are lots of ways to help you child get active.

Sex

Discussing the 'birds and the bees' can be a difficult conversation for both parents and their teenage children, but the benefits of making sure your teen has basic and essential knowledge about sex, relationships, contraception and STIs far outweigh a bit of embarrassment.
