Repairs and Maintenance

Landlords of housing having certain responsibilities to ensure properties are maintained and repairs completed that are not a result of the lifestyle of the tenant.

For council tenants, the Council is responsible for ensuring:

  • the structure of your property is kept in good condition – this includes the walls, ceiling, roof and windows
  • gas and electricity appliances work safely
  • shared parts of a building or housing estate are kept in good condition

If a repair is required council tenants should get in touch directly with their managing agent.

Private tenants also need to report repairs to that are needed to their landlord. This will be done directly or through their letting agent, dependent on who is manging their tenancy. If the landlord does not respond after a tenant has reported the repair on two separate occasions, they can seek advice and support from the Council.
