The Wolverhampton Society is a non-profit organisation which aims to promote the history of the city and its people, buildings and places. It also promotes a wider interest in science and literature in the city. We host talks by expert speakers on various topics and encourage and support civic, cultural and local history projects. We will continue to erect the city’s famous Blue Plaques, which commemorate significant individuals and events linked to Wolverhampton.
The Wolverhampton Society can trace it roots back to 1880 when a group of 'town worthies' were inspired, by a visit from Charles Dickens, to establish the Wolverhampton Literary and Scientific Society.
In 2020, the Wolverhampton Society came into being following the merger of:
- Wolverhampton Civic and Historical Society
- Wolverhampton Literary and Scientific Society
