Sense

We are a national charity that supports and campaigns for children and adults who are deafblind or have sensory impairments. For everyone living with complex disabilities. For everyone who is deafblind. Sense is here to help people communicate and experience the world. We believe that no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, should be isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential.

Deafblindness refers to a combination of sight and hearing impairment which causes difficulties in a range of areas including communication, access to information and mobility.

At Sense we offer high-quality, flexible services across the UK, using skilled staff and a dedicated network of volunteers. We work with a wide range of people who are deafblind or have sensory impairments, as well as those who have a single-sensory impairment with additional needs. We have skills in complex communication, orientation and challenging behaviour.

Sense has worked with deafblind people, their families, and the professionals who support them for more than 60 years. With our long experience of supporting individuals and their families, and of establishing and running successful services, we are uniquely positioned to offer advice and support on all issues regarding deafblindness.

Our specialist staff can provide information that is up-to-date and relevant to a person's needs. We can help you to understand your rights and specific guidance around social care for deafblind adults and children, as well as local authority services.
