New Childminders

Currently, the Local Authority do not provide an induction training programme. The Early Intervention team can provide support for new childminders before they register with Ofsted.

If you are interested in becoming a childminder and pay council tax to Wolverhampton City Council then we recommend you contact PACEY or visit the PACEY website.

The Home-Based Childcare online course (HBCA) will provide you with information on children's learning, regulations, Ofsted registration, legislation and safeguarding. The course also aims to improve your understanding of working in partnership with parents and how to set up your own business.

How to Register as a Childminder?

Before registering as a childminder, we recommend you go onto the OFSTED website to check you are eligible to register as a childminder. We also recommend that you look in your local area for other childminders or day nurseries nearby, as these could affect your business. If you rent, you will need to get permission from your landlord. If you own your house, you will need to get permission from your mortgage provider.

You will need to look at the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework, it is mandatory for all registered care providers. The Early Years Foundation Stage framework sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well, are kept healthy and safe, and have the knowledge and skills they need to start school.

Registering as a childminder is a long process that will take roughly 12 months and there are a number of costs involved:
