Whilst some children with Autism will be pleased to escape from the daily challenge they face in the school environment, for others the deconstruction of their usual routine and the ongoing nature of the current situation will present immeasurable anxiety. Primarily the role of the parent in this scenario is to create an environment in which your child feels safe and secure, as they will be unable to begin any academic learning until this feeling of security is established.
For some children this will mean implementing a really structured and repetitive timetable where as for others, complete flexibility and a relaxing of usual boundaries is what is required. As a parent, you are best placed to know which approach is right for your child.
