We recognise what a difficult time it can be for family and friends at this time and therefore the Trust has a Bereavement Centre who help relatives and carers when a patient has died in our hospitals.
Staff will co-ordinate the paperwork that is needed after death to be able to register the death. Doctors are advised to complete a medical cause of death certificate and any necessary cremation forms at their earliest convenience.
Families will be given a booklet, ‘Practical help following the death of a relative or friend’ from the ward where the patient has died. This booklet provides all information on what to do next and provides practical help and advice during the early days of their bereavement. This service is offered at two hospitals - New Cross and West Park.
