Our engineer inspects any returned equipment and our approved repair service will return it to a suitable standard for re-issue.

How often should the equipment be reviewed?

Needs based, dependent upon user or carer requesting review.

Are regular reviews and maintenance undertaken?

Reviews are provided as required and our users are able to request this directly.

What happens when the equipment is no longer suitable or required?

User can contact Wolverhampton Wheelchair service for collection if no longer required. Alternatively they can request a review.

Is insurance required?

Not essential but recommended for powered equipment users.

Referral Details

Who can make referrals for assessment for equiment?

Initial referral must always come from a qualified health professional. Once known to the service, self referral.

How is assessment accessed?

Referral to Wolverhampton Wheelchair service.

How is need assessed?

All users receive an assessment by a member (or members) of the Wheelchair service team and equipment is prescribed according to need and in accordance with provision criteria.

How long will the assessment take and when will be the equipment be provided?

Variable according to complexity but we aim to complete the episode within 18 weeks of referral being received by the service.

Will equipment be provided new or recycled?

Both but recycled wherever possible

How is equipment provided?

Equipment may be handed over in a clinic with demonstration and instruction in it's use by a member of the Wheelchair Service team. Alternatively it may be necessary to hand over at the home address, school or other service accessed by the user.

Is demonstration or training required prior to use?

Yes in most cases.
