Mentor Link is a registered charity dedicated to providing social and emotional support to distressed children and young people. We provide a services to schools in Wolverhampton and welcome enquiries from teachers, parents and governors requiring additional information.
Mentor Link is dedicated to providing long-term one-to-one social and emotional listening support to distressed and vulnerable young people by providing them with a volunteer mentor during difficult times in their lives. Difficulties faced may include:
- Anxiety
- Self-harm
- Low-level mental health issues
- Low self-esteem
- Bullying
- Traumatic bereavement
- Family breakdown etc.
The aim of mentoring is to help the young people achieve positive changes both personally and educationally, and remain engaged with their education, family and community. In the short term this may mean engaging better in class and improving educational outcomes, and in the long term improving their life chances and helping them to achieve a more successful transition to adulthood. The wellbeing of these young people forms the focus of our work.
Locally and safely recruited, we train our mentors to offer support to those in need weekly across the West Midlands. The service is provided mainly, but not exclusively in school.
Our mentoring service is weekly, one to one, long term and dedicated to the needs of the children and young people. The sessions are confidential and provided in line with Safeguarding guidelines.
Our Recruiters are trained in Safer Recruiting and all of our staff and volunteers have to attend Induction training which includes Safeguarding training. All volunteers and staff are subject to enhanced DBS disclosure.
Our qualified Trainer also delivers Protective Behaviours Training to schools for pupils, staff and parents teaching them about the rights of children to stay safe, who to talk to if they feel unsafe and feelings associated with being unsafe. There is a small charge depending on the requirements of schools so we ask all schools to contact us for further information.
