Switch Midlands CIC

Switch Midlands #poweringpotential

We provide early intervention support for Wolverhampton children and young people whose social and emotional needs are causing concern and preventing them from achieving their full potential.

At it’s heart, our service works towards preventing the exclusion and isolation of children and young people from schools, communitites and families. We achieve this by offering:

  • In-school outreach support through our Switch Coaches Programme into both primary and secondary settings; and,
  • Short-term alternative provision placements for secondary school pupils at our Switch Centre.

Our programmes help children young people understand how situations and issues arise and then develop the skills to approach concerns in a more reflective way, allowing them to be more effective in solving their own problems and feel more in control. We provide pupils with opportunities to enjoy learning about and making informed decisions around their own personal development, behaviour, welfare and mental health.

Our emphasis is placed on supporting children and young people to make good choices in both their educational and personal lives, giving them the ability to recognise and respond to their own emotions, form effective peer and adult relationships and to persevere through challenges.

During our support children and young people complete a tailored social and emotional learning programme (SEL), which has been quality assured and accredited by the awarding body, Open Awards. The areas for personal development covered during the support are evidenced by both the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) and Early Intervention Foundation (EIF) as key priorities for children and young people undertaking a programme of study involving SEL, and includes:

  • Self-Awareness
  • Social Awareness
  • Responsible Decision Making
  • Relationship Skills
  • Self-Management

We are able to support pupils using our own evidence-based learning programmes, designed and delivered by our experienced and trained staff, all of which hold enhanced DBS checks and safeguarding qualifications, plus a range of intervention specialisms including Emotion Coaching, Mental Health First Aid, Restorative Practice and Mentoring.
