Give Us A Break (GUAB) is a volunteer run charity, providing accessible activities for young people with complex disabilities and their families to enjoy together.
Our members mostly attend specialist educational provisions, and cannot access mainstream activities due to their complex needs and requirement for 1:1 or higher levels of care and supervision. Membership for eligible young people is free, and is requested via our website.
GUAB organises a diverse range of activities, primarily during school holidays and occasionally on weekends, to accommodate the needs of our members. Activities are carefully chosen to ensure they are accessible and enjoyable for everyone. We are proud to subsidise these events through generous donations and funding, keeping costs as low as possible for our families while sustaining the service.
Our activities vary and are dependent on factors such as funding and availability. Past activities have included: swimming, messy sensory play, music sessions, sensory centre hire, hydropools, boat trips, soft play, Christmas festivities, day trips, UV parties and more. They run in Wolverhampton and surrounding areas.
Our activities are designed as 'stay and play' style family sessions, where parents/carers are responsible for the young people they bring at all times. However we do allow members to attend activities with Personal Assistants/paid carers, or any other responsible adult. Transport is not provided.
