Specialist Foot Health Services covers all aspects of foot care and foot health, concentrating on patients with high risk foot problems; these include patients with active foot ulcers or those that are at risk of developing foot ulceration.
The service also treats patients with nail and skin problems, for example, corns hard skin, warts, verrucae and fungal infections, and offers surgical treatment for ingrowing toenails.
We also provide advice and support on how patients can safely self-manage their own foot conditions and provide advice related to foot deformities.
Biomechanics assessments (the study of how we walk) are carried out at the Mayfield Medical centre, we assess for normal and abnormal movements in patients gait (walking) patterns and look for any deformities that may cause specific problems. Following an assessment we provide advice on exercise therapy and in some cases insoles will be supplied for patients that require additional support in their shoes.
The service will assess anyone of any age with a valid referral from a registered health care professional which meets the services access criteria.
