UNIQUE (Rare Chromosome Disorder Support Group)

Discovering that you or your child has a rare chromosome disorder or an autosomal dominant single gene disorder causing your child's learning disability, developmental delay and maybe other symptoms can come as a great shock. You might be feeling a mixture of emotions; sadness, confusion, numbness, anger, guilt, "why me?", isolation, bewilderment and very often a sense of grief for the child you had anticipated.

Unique provides much needed help and information to those caring for a family member with a rare chromosome disorder. These lifelong disorders affect 1 in 200 live-born babies and those affected are often sick and severely disabled, unable to walk or talk.

Our mission is to inform, support and alleviate the isolation of anyone affected by a rare chromosome or autosomal dominant single gene disorder and to raise public awareness.

We have a large network group of parents and professionals all with a common cause, to help others. Parents of affected children should register by visiting our website or emailing us.
Further information can be found on our Unique Facebook page.
