The Wolverhampton Society is a non-profit organisation, it aims to promote the history of the city and its people, buildings and places and to promote a wider interest in science and literature in the city. We host talks by expert speakers on various topics and encourage and support civic, cultural and local history projects. We will continue to erect the city’s famous Blue Plaques, which commemorate significant individuals and events linked to Wolverhampton.
The Wolverhampton Society can trace it roots back to 1880, when, following a visit by Charles Dickens in his penultimate, the Wolverhampton Literary and Scientific Society was formed to promote these subjects by a group of “town worthies”.
In January 2019, the Wolverhampton Society's single team of willing volunteers ensured the continued success of two well-loved, local societies:
- Wolverhampton Civic and Historical Society (WCHS)
- Wolverhampton Literary and Scientific Society (WLSS)
