Wolverhampton Coeliac Support Group

Coeliac disease is a lifelong autoimmune disease. It is caused by the immune system reacting to gluten. Coeliac disease is common and affects one in 100 people. Once diagnosed, the only treatment for coeliac disease is a gluten-free diet. Gluten is found in wheat, barley and rye. Some people are also sensitive to oats. Once gluten is removed from the diet, you should start to feel much better.

This Local Group covers the Wolverhampton area and organises meetings and social events throughout the year. The Committee works hard to put ideas and suggestions together for the forthcoming year for their members.

All people with coeliac disease and their families are welcome to attend. Membership of the Local Group is free but there is a small charge of £1 per person at meetings to cover for refreshments and venue hire. Donations are always welcome.

The group also has a dedicated Young Wolverhampton Coeliac Group - for children under 16 with coeliac disease and their families.

Our events through the year include

  • Disco with gluten free fish and chips
  • Easter event with egg decorating
  • Coeliac Awareness Week cooking event
  • Halloween event
