Wolverhampton Art Gallery


Wolverhampton Art Gallery is located in the City of Wolverhampton.

The building was funded and constructed by local contractor Philip Horsman, and built on land provided by the Council. It opened in May 1884. 

Come and explore more than 300 years of art in our free gallery with fantastic changing exhibitions and permanent galleries featuring work by English landscape and portrait genius Gainsborough we’ve got it all here.

Permanent displays are dedicated to key periods in history, such as the Georgian and Victorian rooms, as well as the Pop Art gallery which, with its changing programme of artists, has exhibited the likes of Andy Warhol, Peter Blake, Roy Lichtenstein and David Hockney.

There are also collections of japanned wear, enamels and ceramics, dolls and other toys, artworks by local painters and artefacts that reveal the history of the surrounding area.

We host exhibitions and displays, hands-on activities and special events, plus popular cafes and shops ideal for those unique gifts.
