Spurgeons is one of the UK's leading children's charities, supporting children and their families for almost 150 years. We deliver more than 85 high-quality services reaching over 50,000 children and 13,500 parents or carers.
Who are young carers?
It is estimated that around 27,500 people in Wolverhampton care for an elderly or vulnerable friend or relative, or someone with a disability or mental health needs.
Family circumstances mean that from an early age some children and young people provide regular or ongoing care and support to another family member as a result of them having a physical disability, mental illness, or are struggling with substance misuse. Young carers often take on practical and/or emotional caring responsibilities that would normally be expected of an adult.
Activities:
Our groups and activities are for 5 to 10 years and 11 to 13-year olds - run monthly on a Wednesday evening. There is a Saturday club for 14-18-year olds. Saturday club runs during the day, times may vary. Staff also support young carers to attend a Senior session at The Way once a month.
